What is the 10’000 Calorie Challenge?
The 10’000 calorie challenge is when one person attempts to eat 10’000 in one single day. You can eat whatever you want and put any spin on it that you want. The entire day is filmed and logged in a calorie tracking app like Myfitnesspal.
Why do the 10’000 calorie challenge?
The 10’000 calorie challenge is a tough mental and physical eating challenge that has gained momentum on YouTube. It is not the healthiest and best feeling challenge to attempt, however it will result in a lot of views and engagements. However, the challenge itself is growing stale and there are not many (Fitness) YouTubers out there that have not yet attempted to do this challenge. We decided to spice things up a bit by doing it with three individual YouTubers and filming for three separate channels. Each person creating and editing their own unique version of the collaboration. Everyone, include ourselves, thinks it’s not a big deal and that they could finish it with – until they try it.
- No liquid Calories;
- Must be completed in the span of one day;
- All meals and eating must be shown;
Here are some helpful tips on how to do the 10.000 calorie challenge yourself.
We started the challenge at 8 o’clock in the morning and did not finish until around midnight. No matter how big of an eater you are, you are going to struggle. All three of us consider ourselves big eaters, devouring 3500 calories a day on our bulks. However, the challenge is three times as much as this, so be prepared!
What foods to eat?
You’re going to want high calorie, low fibre and foods that do not consistent of a ton of food volume. High fat, carb foods are fine!
- Ice Cream
Don’t eat too much sweet food.
As tempting as it may be, do not go all in on sugary sweets like donuts and muffins.
This will leave you feeling nauseous. Try and balance sweet and savoury and combine muffins and donuts with pizza and burgers.
Do It with friends!
This challenge is 10x easier when you complete it with friends. Spreads the joy and you are therefore able to keep each other motivated.
Plan your meals in advance.
Do your research and prepare for the 10.000 calorie challenge by making a draft in Myfitnesspal of the foods you are going to eat. This will save you a lot of stress on the day itself and will also allow you to time your meals and ensure that you will be finished on time.
Make sure you go to the gym.
You want to burn and sweat as many calories as you can. This will also help you digest the foods you have eaten and make room for more!
Cut down prior to the challenge.
Putting yourself in a caloric deficit a week before the challenge will not only limit the amount of damage you can do to your body composition, but will also increase your appetite dramatically. A lot of YouTubers attempt this challenge during their cut, rather than their bulk, because they have an increased appetite and limit the amount of ‘extra’ fat gain.
